Monster Muddy Buddies (Halloween Puppy Chow)
I introduce to you the easiest and most delicious Halloween treat – Monster Muddy Buddies (Puppy Chow). It’s the perfect mix of sweet and salty, and is a great addition to any party or a snack to have on hand at home! This would also be a fun activity to make with kids! Basically, everyone is sure to love this spooky snack!
This recipe is made with Chex cereal, almond butter (but you could use peanut butter), chocolate chips and coconut oil (or butter). Then, coat it in powdered sugar and add all the fun Halloween mix-ins/toppings!
What You’ll Need:
To make this Monster Muddy Budddies/Halloween Puppy Chow, you’ll just need 10 total ingredients and a few simple steps!
Ingredients:
- Chex cereal
- almond butter (or any nut/seed butter)
- chocolate chips
- coconut oil
- vanilla extract
- salt
- powdered sugar
- toppings: Reese’s pieces, Halloween sprinkles, edible candy eyes
* Possible substitutes listed below. NOTE: I have not personally tried any of these substitutes for this recipe, however I believe they could work.
- you can substitute peanut butter or any nut/seed butter for the almond butter
- instead of coconut oil, you could use butter
How To Make:
This recipe is super simple! Melt together the almond butter, chocolate chips and coconut oil in the microwave for 30 seconds, then an additional 15 seconds if necessary. Then, mix together with half (3 cups) of the rice chex and 1/2 cup chocolate mixture until coated. Repeat that with the other half of the chex and chocolate. Let cool for a few minutes, then toss with powdered sugar in a large ziploc bag. Add in toppings, serve & enjoy!

Ingredients
- 6 cups Chex cereal
- 1/3 cup almond butter
- 1/2 heaping cup chocolate chips
- 3 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- dash of salt
- 1 cup powdered sugar
Toppings:
- 1/2 cup Reeses pieces
- 1/4 cup edible candy eyes
- 3 tbsp Halloween sprinkles
Instructions
- In a microwave safe bowl, add almond butter, coconut oil, and chocolate chips. Microwave for 30 seconds, then another 15 seconds if necessary. Add salt and vanilla extract, and mix together until smooth.
- In a large bowl, add 3 cups chex & ~1/2 cup chocolate mixture. Gently mix until all chex are coated evenly. Repeat this with the remaining chex and chocolate.
- Let cool for 5-10 min. Add half of the chex to a large ziploc bag with 1/2 cup powdered sugar. Seal and shake until evenly coated. Then, add the other half of the chex and 1/2 cup powdered sugar. Seal and shake until evenly coated. Toss in toppings, or add to a large serving bowl and add the toppings on top.
